Nice work if you could get it!
Turn on the television day or night and your likely to catch some sort of 'Reality Show'. Which is quite a misnomer in that reality tv is as much about reality as Dr. Seuss. It is the new American tv pastime just as televised talk shows were a decade ago.
My suspicions lead me to believe that so-called reality tv is the bastard child of the once popular talk show. It is the natural digression of where the talk show has led us all on the road to our own Babble.
to put it bluntly it has resulted in a new cult of American ignorance. Like the talk show we are given a range of social deviancy in which to partake. From the
Whitney Houston's (Bobby included) to the papparazi driven frenzy involving Britney Spears' outlandish behaviors.
I can only venture to guess that these shows are akin to the Christians, lion and gladiator spectacle in which the Romans were so enamored. Why watch scripted shows when you can be entertained by the real thing? Never mind that reality tv is as scripted as any other.
And I can only assume that what John Updike has stated about golf also applys to reality tv. "That it appeals to the idiot in us... and the child."
