Old Cheyenne Road

It was due to be a bitter afternoon that much was sure to him, he could feel it in his old bones. Sitting there on his front porch, as his morning cup of coffee still sat, steam dancing its way around the fresh air of his Maine home, his old and tired eyes looked around at the open sky ahead of him. One day he would be heading up at that open sky to meet his maker, but that would be some time yet, at least he hoped it would be. This was Thursday, and the week behind him was filled with clam easy going days, however upon waking up on this morning his bones started to speak to him, and that would mean only one thing, a storm was heading his way. He could remember the days when he was a young lad, and his grandpa would remark to a coming storm, in just the same way that he now had known, and yet as a child he would look at his grandpa, as if he had gone off his rocker. Reaching down for his pipe, he pulled out his old Zippo, a Zippo that he had bought overseas when he had severed in the war, and lit up his smoking pipe. If his wife was still alive, God bless her soul, she would be on him about sucking that hell fire into his holy lungs; however he seemed to enjoy his time when he could just sit back, and have a smoke, and a fresh cup of coffee, black of cause.
Edward Wild would be seeing his 86th birth day this coming March, and if you asked him, he would even tell you that he would have never thought he would live long enough to see this day. After the death of his beloved wife, Pam Wild, he had found great comfort in staying at home, a home in which she had made with all of her long and hard hours of turning the once run down place into a warm and welcoming house. On this Thursday it would be 4 years, 7 months, and 12 days since his wife had passed away, leaving him all along in this big and out of control world. Edward and Pam never had children while they were still together, and it was not that they didn’t want any kids, God knows that they tried over and over again, however in the end, it seemed that their maker just never planned for them to have any. Picking up his cup of coffee, he started for a sip, when he saw the car heading down 12th Ave, and heading for Old Cheyenne RD. His house sat right in-between 12th Ave and Lake Side ST, and his porch had a straight view of Old Cheyenne RD, so as the car drove on, he saw it pass Lake Side ST, and started to make its way for Old Cheyenne RD.

Some How

That morning had started off normal, her Hello Kitty alarm clock had gone off as it had done every day for the past three years, when she had received it as a gift from one of her students. She was a special ED teacher, and having no children of her own, her students had become her family, a family she loved deeply. However after she turned off the alarm clock, and got herself into her wheel chair, and wheeled herself into her living room, in which every morning she would turn on her television, to watch the morning news, she found herself looking at a blank screen.
“Funny…” She said out loud, as she wheeled herself over to her end table, where all her bills sat. Her fingers danced among the papers, until she had found what she was looking for. “It is not due until the end of this month!” She added, as she let out a large morning yawn. She moved herself along, and headed towards the bathroom, the fact that her cable was not working did not stop the fact that she still had to get ready for school. Slowly slipping out of her night wear, she grabbed onto her bars, that where specially placed in her shower, to help her live a somewhat normal life. After getting herself into her shower, she paused for a moment to catch her breath. Grabbing onto the knob, she pushed up, and closed her eyes at the same time; she was never a fan of having her face in the water. But after the knob was pushed up, and her face remained dry, she slowly opened her eyes to see that no water was coming out of her shower.
“Oh come on, not the darn water too!” She said, as she sat inside of her dry shower, when it hit her. There was no noise, not one sound was in the very dead and still air, which surround her apartment. “That’s odd…” She spoke to herself, as she was trying to keep her cool, as she pulled herself out of her shower, and back into her wheel chair. She rolled herself over to her bedroom window, and looked out into the city streets, where she stopped what she was doing, and closed her eyes tight. “Wake up Sarah, you silly head you’re still dreaming.” She said out loud, as she reopened her eyes to find herself still lying in bed, and that she had never gotten up yet for that morning. But that was only what she wanted to find, however there she still sat butt naked in her wheel chair, over looking the city near her bedroom window. That was the problem, the city part, of just the many things that where about to go horribly wrong with her day.
